Archipelago of Fernando de Noronha

The archipelago of Fernando de Noronha is located at the coordinates latitude 30 54' S and longitude 32 25'W; The Island is about 360 Km of Natal/RN and 545 Km of Recife/PE. It is part of the state of Pernambuco since 05/10/88, as State District.

It is formed by 21 islands, in an area of approached of 26 Km². To main one, Fernando of Noronha, has an area of approximately 17 Km², and maximum width of 3,5 Km. Circle around the island equals to 60 Km.

The archipelago is the top of an underwater mountain of volcanic origin, whose base is to 4.000m deep.
